Early in my marriage, my husband and I decided to start collecting something we could have in our home to enjoy. Ok, really it was me who wanted this and he willingly went along with it. I wanted something that would be easy enough to buy when traveling to all the wonderful places we dreamed of and lasting reminders of our trips. It started on our honeymoon when we bought our first hand blown glass witches ball.
We both had seen hand blown glass before and appreciated the simplicity, beauty, craftsmanship, and amazing colors of this fine art. So when we saw the blue ball with delicate strands inside, we both knew this was a wonderful beginning of a collection (and marriage). We bought our first witches ball and spent years adding to our collection. Even today, I see this ball and remember how we bought it on our honeymoon in one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen and it symbolizes the beginning of my marriage.
It’s been a while since we have purchased a witches ball. We have displayed our wonderful collection in a bright window in each home we have lived. I have carefully displayed the collection in a window where the sun could illuminate the beautiful glass.
I love the different colors, sizes, and memories I have of each ball. Although some of them have lost their specific connection to a place or time, I do see this collection as a creative expression of my lasting marriage.
So for me, creativity can be something we purposely create in a meaningful way to express something. Or like this collection, it can be something that is created that has inner meaning to you. These witches ball not only were lovingly handmade by very talented artists but fills me with joy and appreciation in seeing them.
I love this collection of glass balls in my home and when I stop to take notice of the sunlight hitting them or my children looking at them, I appreciate how much beauty I have surrounding me.
